'cruinneachadh fo na reultan' - gaelic meaning 'gathering under the stars'.

This was a piece created for the Roots exhibiton at The Barony Centre in West Kilbride.

It is called 'cruinneachadh fo na reultan' - gaelic meaning 'gathering under the stars'.

It is inspired by my love Australian aboriginal art from ancient times right through to now.  I saw a painting by Mick Namarari Tjapaltjarri titled 'Sunrise Chasing Away the Night' where he portrayed a scene as viewed from the stars.  I wanted to capture this energy for Roots and used the ancient symbols meaning meeting place (the circles in the middle), people gathering around (the horseshoe shapes around the centre point) and the individual groups coming together (the circles at the edges of the piece).  The white dots signify the stars.

We are drawn to a place by our sense of community and this viewed from the stars settles the view in the arms of the universe.  We are all made of stars.  A local community becomes global which becomes universal.  It is a perspective I feel we forget at times and this I feel roots us in a particular time and space. The bigger picture.
